W9CGZ:

Licensed amateur operator since 1947. Served as President of Twin City Amateur Radio Club of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. Graduate of University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Accountancy in 1944. Employed by University of Illinois from 1944 until 1976 as Auditor, Accountant and Director of Illini Union (Student Union). Retired in 1976. Married in 1952 to Martha Irwin who was food service manager at Illini Union. She was a graduate of Iowa State University in Dietetics.  Sadly, she passed away in 2004.  We miss her very much.  This union produced two daughters, Nancy and Jane, and three granddaughters, Sarah, Emma and Katie. Traveled extensively throughout United States and Canada in recreational vehicles. Founded and has served as net control for the "Illini Net" since 1976. This net meets every day except Thursdays on 14.320 MHz + or - at 11:30 AM Central Time (Standard in winter, Daylight Saving in summer). Most participants in this net are currently or were formerly residents of Champaign-Urbana, Illinois and surrounding areas and many attended the University of Illinois. Other participants used to live in Illinois or have relatives in Illinois. However, anyone is welcome to join the net at any time.

Antennas used by W9CGZ are a 3 element 10-15-20 meter quad at 58 feet and a 40-80 meter trap dipole at about 45 feet at the center. The rigs used are a Kenwood TS-2000 and an SB-200 amplifier or a Henry 2K amplifier. The mobile rigs are an Icom 706 and an Icom 208H.
